TSC Board Members to Be Sworn In Wednesday

Although I’m sure appropriately advertised as required by law, elections for the Texas Southmost College Board of Trustees were once a hush-hush event. Appointments lined up faster than opponents or candidates, and rubber stamps came by the dozen.

A contagious chatter exists that when newly elected board members take their oath of office at Wednesday’s 5:30 p.m. TSC meeting, UTB-TSC President Juliet Garcia will for the first time wear a face of uncertainty. The board that once echoed her message is no longer there, so the chatter goes.

And, the swearing-in ceremony and canvassing of runoff results will not be held at the usual Gorgas Hall meeting location. Quite fitting for this momentous (let’s hope) occasion, the Free Speech designated area on campus will serve as the venue.

Yes, I said let’s hope. Let’s hope for change, and that platforms are kept close to the heart to reflect each student’s heartfelt desire to acquire a college education to be proud of.

New to the TSC Board are Adela Garza and Rene Torres. Garcia may have to work for that board majority now with new voices joining the board. New voices sometimes spark some much-needed noise from stifled voices, too.

Let's hope.

The guests and supporters will have to celebrate outside in the heat @the free speach area. Those beautiful buildings we have paid for are not for us only for selected guests. Adela and Rene are the undesirables and will remain that way until the board changes.

Things at TSC are not as dramatic as has been rumored, don't believe the chatter. People haven't run for spots on the board because people haven't run. No one stopped anyone who was qualified.

Adela will do fine on this board. She is a smart woman who is passionate and concerned. Once she becomes informed she will join the majority of the board in making the best decisions they can.

rene is another story however. He is a malcontent who will argue just to argue. He is the little guy who has been put in his place his whole adult life. His whole claim to fame in life is a baseball game he played in at the age of 17 or 18. rene will be the odd man out much like "the mayor". His presence will be negative but it will also be minimal.

The current TSC board is made up of very good people, Adela will bring a different perspective to the board and in the end rene won't make a difference. I for one look forward to watching the meetings.

Sorry I offended you with my opinion but I'm glad you posted. You must be related to rene...you sound just like him. Pay attention people. This is what you can expect from rene.

Was that the George Jefferson award? That would fit.
