“The truth is an absolute defense to defamation."

Brownsville attorney Michael Cowen said in response to a defamation lawsuit filed against in Feb. 12 by former Cameron County District Attorney candidate Peter Zavaletta.

The City of Brownsville is collecting damage assessment information on its website. Damages to your property may be submitted at www.cob.us or e-mailed at dolly@cob.us.

However, the online form does not state how the information will be utilized. I believe the info will be provided to FEMA so that it could be decided whether or not to declare our area a Category C Disaster. Category C allows for individual assistance from FEMA. A Category B Disaster Declaration was made for South Texas, which allows for FEMA assistance for damages to government/public property.

For general FEMA information, call the FEMA HOTLINE - 1-800-621-3362.
