Starbucks at Boca Chica Location on Closure List

Starbucks, located at U.S. Expressway 77/83 and Boca Chica Boulevard, will close its doors at the end of the month, according to a recent statement posted on Starbucks.com.

The store is one of about 600 company-operated U.S. stores on the Starbucks closure list. The company will release a list of closures monthly through the first half of FY09.

The Brownsville location is one of five Texas locations on the first closure list released July 1.

"Much thought and consideration was given to each location, because we know the impact this has on our dedicated partners, customers and the communities where we operate," the website states. "Starbucks is listening to customers, partners and the communities where we operate and is working to address their questions while we continue to transform the business."

The Brownsville Starbucks opened in April 2006 and closed in November 2006 due to a mold problem with the building. It later re-opened its doors in June 2007.

Looks like Starbucks junkies, so far, can still order an Iced Single Vente, 7 pump Peppermint, Caramel Sauce Top and Bottom, Light Ice, No whip, Mocha at the 802 and Target locations.

Forget Starbucks- has Dirty Al's reopened - and do you know anything about the rumors they are going to open in the mall. Sometimes I will go to the movies on SPI just so I have an excuse to go to Dirty Al's

I do not know if anyone else has noticed, but a lot of restaurant parking lots which use to be full on Friday and Saturday nights are now only half full - this could all be a sign of the times.

What a shame. Where are all the cool people going to go to have their pretentious beverages? I suppose they can go to WhatABurger but they will have to find a way to spend all the money they will save on foam. Good riddance.

But seriously...

Lack of a drive-thru at that location killed them.

BWC,

As of a couple of weeks ago, Dirty Al's hasn't reopened. I went by there, and a closed due to fire sign remains on the door.

Classic.

Maybe they'll replace it with a Crispy Creme Donuts. Yummy.

Don't mean to pick on ya but a foreign European visitor for the first time to the area made a comment about how everyone here is over weight. One observation made was that there were too many "drive-thru's". What gives?

And there's the dichotomy, no?

Drive-thru's as somewhat helpful to the service industry, yet conceivably harmful to over-indulgent consumers.

It's definitely a sign of the times. This may not be a recession by the classic definition, but obviously consumers are reacting to the scariest economic times they've ever experienced.

Remember when the other Clinton was campaigning for his first term and he asked people, "Are you better off than you were eight years ago?" I wonder if anyone other than defense contracters and oil company executives could answer that question in the affirmative today. Thanks, Dubya. Are you happy now? Mission accomplished. Your friends are rolling in their war loot and obscene oil company profits and the working people of this country (and their grandchildren) will be picking up the tab.

It's not that I'm going to miss that one Starbucks location so much, but I'm sure upset about what it means that it's closing.

Please, God, let me keep my head above water until January, because I NEED to see our new President inaugurated.

"Give me agrande extra hot soy with extra foam, split shot with a half squirt of sugar-free vanilla and a half squirt of sugar-free cinnamon, a half packet of splenda, oh and put that in a venti cup and fill up the "room" with extra whipped cream with carmel and chocolate sauce drizzled on top."

When I read about Starbucks closing down stores today, I wasn't the least bit afraid of them filing for bankruptcy or closing down forever. I've been following the whole Starbucks ordeal on savvywallet.com. Even with the free iced coffee on Wednesday promotion, introduction of their fruity smoothies, and free wifi with gift card registrations. The only thing I'm worried about is not enough hotspots for wifi. There are several stores around my area that are closing down, and that's what I'm concerned about. I enjoy walking around the streets, plop down and always be able to find a signal because I know a Starbucks is near. The glory days are over.

wow. they are closing the bangor, maine mall store. when i left the company that was a seemingly highly successful store. they opened a second bangor store and are now closing both of them. i wonder if was cannibalization or being so far from the closest neighboring stores that put them on the list?

To be honest, I think that there's something odd about a starbucks with a drive-thru. Honestly, I like the idea of actually getting out of the car and getting my drink. It's the way starbucks should be...
