Brownsville United Summit Jan. 15

Thirteen different governmental agencies and entities are scheduled to participate in the first-ever “ Brownsville United Summit” January 15, 5-7 p.m. at the Events Center, 1 Events Center Boulevard.

This summit is aimed at centralizing issues and projects that are common to the entire area. Local state representatives and U.S. Representative Solomon P. Ortiz have also been invited to participate.

City Commissioner Charlie Atkinson and Port Commissioner Martin Arambula are co-sponsors of the event and will urge participants to adopt a resolution on “going green” which could result in a regional impact on the region’s environment, infrastructure and quality of life as a whole.

Agencies to be represented include BEDC, BND, BISD, BPUB, the City of Brownsville, BCIC, Cameron County, GBIC, BDVB, UTB/TSC, the Chamber of Commerce, the Regional Mobility Authority and the Consulate of Mexico.

Atkinson says each agency is being asked to discuss two projects vital to that agency and to Brownsville ’s role in a rapidly changing global scenario.

Show up Thursday and lets take Brownsville to another level. Together we are unbeatable but apart we dont have a chance in Washington or in Austin. Please come and lets make a difference. This meeting is brought to by the Commission(not the Mayor) and the Port of Brownsville Martin Arambula. We need everyone's support.

Commissioner Atkinson : How can you tell us to be together and at the same time you still take whatever chance you get to throw a little jab at the Mayor. You state that the meeting is brought by the commission, not the Mayor - showing that you all are apart. Hipocrit. I don't support the Mayor, but I am tired of Mr. Atkinson bashing people and acting like a high school bully everywhere he goes! Grow up!

Anony, your point is well taken. Alas, it falls on deaf ears.

GTC is as GTC does. It's really all he knows. That's why he's such a hoot on this here blogosphere.

The Mayor has openly opposed this meeting because it wasn't his idea. He claims commissioners just want to act like Mayors. He has openly stated he does not support this meeting. Face it, his actions obviously tells city staff and the commission he does not approve of this meeting. We will attempt to unite despite his opposition to this meeting. I just want people to know that it is he that is against uniting the city. We move on despite his negativity. Most officials advised me that they wouldn't attend if he was involved. Sometimes you have to take one for the team so progress can prevail. I wouldn't want to include anyone who didn't want to be a part of this event. This is not Atkinson's event nor Arambula's event. This event is for the betterment of the community. Sorry if I sound like a bully but its just that I don't have time for people who can't put the people ahead of themselves. I'm jabbing because he is throwing punches and he does have the Herald on his side. Chris davis, isn't there a meeting in Rancho Viejo that needs filming? Use your little camera that your daddy bought you and put it to good use. What a waste of a life you have!!!!

As Mayor of the city and a board member of PUB, how can he NOT be involved?

Because he chose not to be involved. If he shows up, he shows up but the meeting is already going to be handled a certain way. This is not the Pat Ahumada show nor my show. Its a workshop to show you, the taxpayer, what Brownsville is doing. Don't fault me for bringing this to the table. You should be happy that someone wants to let the people in on what each enitiy is doing to protect your interests. God bless Brownsville and the humble servants that want positive things for her.

(Most officials advised me that they wouldn't attend if he was involved.)

MOST. That's over 50%. So name names, Charlie. Taxpayers need to know who will work with the mayor and who won't. It's apparent you won't work with him unless he is positive or takes Prozac. Are these officials only telling you what you want to hear? I can assume the consulate will work with the mayor and his projects assisting Matamoros and frequent travels to Mexico. That already hurts your "most" claim.

(Its a workshop to show you, the taxpayer, what Brownsville is doing.)

It was a show of what millions of dollars are being spent or planned on being spent. The Drainage District working on a water park instead of drainage. Now that's something positively stupid.

(God bless Brownsville and the humble servants that want positive things for her.)

Humble doesn't even begin to describe you. It's obvious your diabetes is a handicap. The only positive change you could bring to the table is to resign.

"Let the people in" from a "humble servant"?

Catch a clue, GoodTime. The people let YOU in. But it's safe to say they've realized their mistake. Your ignorance + ego will be your downfall.

And I. can't. wait.

Chris,

At least I would have had an opportunity to serve the citizens in Brownsville. What have you done besides living off your daddy's money. Do something positive for the people before you judge others. Marrying into the Rodriguez family will be the closet you'll get to being a politician in this city. I will make sure of that. Its people like you that motivate a lot of us to discredit your name and beliefs. I feel sorry for your beautiful kids. They don't deserve a selfish jerk like you.

You tell 'em like it's Charlie. Keep defaming/discrediting him around town. That'll show 'em.

Way to go Charlie! Can't you do anything right? Love the way you drag someone's kids into to a stupid inmature fight. Didn't you read the rules of the comment: KEEP IT SEMI-CLEAN. KEEP IT REAL. KEEP THE FAITH. DIOS TE BENDIGA.
